:De 1987 à 1998, Berlin Hauptbahnhof désignait l'actuelle Gare de l'Est "Berlin Ostbahnhof". De 1998 à 2006, Berlin n'avait plus officiellement de gare centrale. Située au cœur de Berlin, près du Reichstag, la gare est construite sur l'ancien site de la Lehrter Bahnhof. Tous les trains grandes lignes traversant Berlin ou y arrivant y passent. À terme, plus de 1 100 trains y transiteront quotidiennement, et 300 000 passagers emprunteront ses 54 escaliers roulants et ses 34 ascenseurs. Six panoramiques seront mis en service 2007 lorsque les deux tours de 46 m seront achevées.
